Rounds in a combinatorial search problem

چکیده
We consider the following combinatorial search problem: we are given some excellent elements of [n] and we should find at least one, asking questions of the following type: ”Is there an excellent element in A ⊂ [n]?”. G.O.H. Katona [6] proved sharp results for the number of questions needed to ask in the adaptive, non-adaptive and two-round versions of this problem. We verify a conjecture of Katona by proving that in the r-round version we need to ask rn +O(1) queries for fixed r and this is sharp. We also prove bounds for the queries needed to ask if we want to find at least d excellent elements.

Winner Determination in Combinatorial Auctions using Hybrid Ant Colony Optimization and Multi-Neighborhood Local Search
A combinatorial auction is an auction where the bidders have the choice to bid on bundles of items. The WDP in combinatorial auctions is the problem of finding winning bids that maximize the auctioneer’s revenue under the constraint that each item can be allocated to at most one bidder. The WDP is known as an NP-hard problem with practical applications like electronic commerce, production manag...
متن کاملA hybrid metaheuristic using fuzzy greedy search operator for combinatorial optimization with specific reference to the travelling salesman problem
We describe a hybrid meta-heuristic algorithm for combinatorial optimization problems with a specific reference to the travelling salesman problem (TSP). The method is a combination of a genetic algorithm (GA) and greedy randomized adaptive search procedure (GRASP). A new adaptive fuzzy a greedy search operator is developed for this hybrid method. Computational experiments using a wide range of...
متن کاملFORM FINDING FOR RECTILINEAR ORTHOGONAL BUILDINGS THROUGH CHARGED SYSTEM SEARCH ALGORITHM
Preliminary layout design of buildings has a substantial effect on the ultimate design of structural components and accordingly influences the construction cost. Exploring structurally efficient forms and shapes during the conceptual design stage of a project can also facilitate the optimum integrated design of buildings. This paper presents an automated method of determining column layout desi...
متن کاملAn Improved Modified Tabu Search Algorithm to Solve the Vehicle Routing Problem with Simultaneous Pickup and Delivery
The vehicle routing problem with simultaneous pickup and delivery (VRPSPD) is a well-known combinatorial optimization problem which addresses provided service to a set of customers using a homogeneous fleet of capacitated vehicles. The objective is to minimize the distance traveled. The VRPSPD is an NP-hard combinatorial optimization problem. Therefore, practical large-scale instances of VR...

Greedy randomize adaptive search procedure is one of the repetitive meta-heuristic to solve combinatorial problem. In this procedure, each repetition includes two, construction and local search phase. A high quality feasible primitive answer is made in construction phase and is improved in the second phase with local search. The best answer result of iterations, declare as output. In this stu...
